P98    US Belt Buckle, Regulation 1839 Pattern (Stud Hooks)

Nice excavated US buckle. The face of this plate has a light brown patina. The back retains nearly all of the lead solder and its attachment hooks. The lead filled studs are under the "S"

P81    US Belt Buckle, Regulation 1839 Pattern (Stud Hooks) Leather

Very nice excavated US buckle. The patina on the front of this plate is a light brown/olive color. There is one hairline crack on the edge above the "S" however it doesn't detract from the beauty of this plate. The back of the buckle retains nearly of its original lead solder. There is a nice piece of leather still attached to the back under the lead capped studs. This plate is configured as a left hand buckle with the studs under the "S". This one also still retains its original curve as well. You just don't dig them like this around here anymore.

P76    US Belt Buckle, Regulation 1839 Pattern (Stud Hooks) Maker Marked

Nice excavated US buckle. The patina on the face of this plate shows a little ground action but it is consistent. The back of the buckle retains nearly all of its lead solder and the attachment hooks. There are two pieces of leather attached to the back. One around the brass studs and another hanging onto the hook.  This plate is configured as a left handed buckle with the hooks under the "S." The plate retains its original curve and the back is stamped with "WH SMITH/ BROOKLYN"

P29   Carbine Sling Buckle, Regulation 1841 Pattern (Maker Marked)

Nice maker marked plate. This piece is intact including the bar, flippers, and the "batwing." This piece is a little bent as the pictures show. This piece has not been repaired. Marked on the frame " T.J. Sheppard and E. Gaylord Chicopee Mass." These were contracted to Emerson Gaylord of Mass. He produced nearly 50,000 slings from mid to late war.

P34   US Buckle, Regulation 1839 Pattern (Arrow Hooks)

Nice early dug plate. This plate retains nearly 100% of its lead solder and still retains its original curve. The hooks are located under the "S" and configured for a left handed buckle. There is a slight bend to the buckle on the right side near the "S". Please view the side pictures of this plate. This buckle has no repairs, cracks, or bends not mentioned above

P55    US Belt Buckle, Regulation 1839 Pattern (Stud Hooks)

Nice excavated belt buckle. The face of this plate has a very pleasing patina. The back of the plate still retains nearly all of its lead solder. This is configured for a left handed buckle with the hooks under the "S." This one still retains its original curve though a little tweaked. The stud hooks on this buckle are brass with lead caps.

Cartridge Box Plates


P95    US Cartridge Box Plate with One Loop

Nice excavated US cartridge box plate. This particular one was recovered on Lee's retreat route from Antietam by Sydney Kerksis the author of Plates & Buckles of the American Military 1795-1874. This crossing is known as Pack Horse Ford, Boteler's Ford, Blackford's Ford, Shepherdstown crossing, etc. etc. This was the area of last battle of the 1862 Maryland Campaign (Battle of Shepherdstown Va. Sept. 19-20 1862). This plates comes with the famous Syd Kerksis plate envelope with his hand written description. Also included is a certificate of authenticity from John Pannick of the Sword & Saber in Gettysburg Pa.

P89    US Cartridge Box Plate with Both Loops (Maker Marked)

Very nice excavated cartridge box plate. The face of this plate has a nice dug patina showing little ground action. The back retains both of the hooks and nearly 100% of the lead solder. One hook is slightly bent. The mark of "WH SMITH/ BROOKLYN" is crisp and legible. You just don't dig them like this anymore!

P40    US Cartridge Boxplate with loops

Nice excavated plate. The front of this plate has a dark brown patina with some dull spots. The back of the plate retains nearly all of the lead solder and both hooks.

P53    US Cartridge Box Plate with hooks

Very nice excavated box plate. The face of this plate is outstanding. The back retains nearly all of the lead solder and both loops are intact. These plates were attached to the cartridge boxes with a leather thong on the back of the front flap.

P35    US Boxplate with both hooks

Very nice excavated box plate. The face of this plate is nice with a little crust. This could be cleaned up a little more revealing the slick dark patina underneath. The back of the plate retains nearly all of the lead solder and both loops are still present.

Eagle Breastplates


P92    Eagle Breastplate, 1826 Regulation with both loops

Nice excavated eagle breastplate. The front of this plate has that early dug slick olive patina. The back has nearly all of the lead solder and both hooks are strong and attached. You just don't dig them like this anymore!

P38    Eagle Breastplate, 1826 Regulation with both loops

Nice excavated plate. The front of this plate is a smooth light chocolate patina. The back of the plate retains nearly all of the lead solder. Both of the loops are intact. This is the die variant that is not crisp.

P45    Eagle Breastplate, 1826 Regulation  one loop (Maker Marked)

Nice excavated plate. The face of this plate has a nice consistent patina. The back retains nearly all of the lead solder and one attachment loop is present. This plate is stamped twice with "E. Gaylord". The lead bubble on the back is blocking out most of one of the stamps. Very nice detailed face.
